Story by Matt Milligan
This year's West 49 contest went off. It took place in Hamilton, Canada which is a small steel town in the suburbs of Toronto. There was plenty of excitement all weekend long as ams and pros destroyed the course. The format for this event was very unique with six man heats consisting of an introductory run and two separate jams averaged together for one score. Plus you throw in various best trick events throughout the weekend and you have one hell of a showdown. Click here for the full story.

Eastern Canada's biggest skate event
The West 49 Canadian Open has moved to Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ON and takes place from September 29th - October 2nd, 2006 and we want you there! Check out the best field outside the X-Games competing for $75,000US in prize money. There will be great parties all weekend long, don’t miss a minute.
Massive New Street Course!
Montreal’s SpinWorks, designers of last year’s acclaimed street course will lay out the 2006 Billabong Street Course with the same progressive style of great flowing lines that let Greg Lutzka narrowly defeat Ryan Sheckler and Jereme Rogers at the 2005 Open. Back again for 2006 will be the famed Rail Rumble event where teams of four Canadian Pro’s do battle against four International pro’s for a cool $5K US. The Friday “open” format is also back to allow local “up and coming” pro’s to break into the big time, like 12-year old sensation Nyjah Huston who came out of the qualifiers to place an amazing 4th against some of the biggest names in skateboarding.
Battle of the Brands is Back!
The highlight of the $75,000US competitions is the West 49 Battle of the Brands where five core categories of skate brands compete for cash and bragging rights – back to defend their titles for 2006 will be the teams from Billabong (Clothing), Etnies (Shoes), Tensor (Trucks), Bones (Wheels) and Girl (Decks).
